Today we learned that how you scale graphs can impact how people perceive information. Click here to see an example of this.

Crappy Graphs
Today we messed around with different tools to make graphs and charts. Crappy Graphs was the first one we used, and it definitely lived up to it's name. Click here to see my Crappy Graph, or just look below :) We used the snipping tool to save the graph and then embed it here.

Then we went to Kidzone and made more graphs! Look below again to see mine.

What is a rubric?
Today we made rubrics for our WebQuests. A rubric is a tool that assists a teacher in scoring a student's presentation. It also gives the students guidelines on what needs to be done to get a certain grade.
We used Rubistar to make our rubrics. It is an easy tool that is free online.
Have a stupendous extra long weekend! =]

WebQuest
What makes a good WebQuest?
A good WebQuest is fun. It engages the students in higher level thinking. It also does not waste time. It integrates the use of technology.
My unit is banned books.
My essential question is still being figured out, but I will update this as soon as I figure it out.
My questions are:
1. Why do books get banned?
2. What is "censorship"?
3. Who has the right to decide what I should be able to read?
4. What does the 1st amendment say about all this?
5. My student role #1 is researcher A.
6. My student role #2 is a reporter.
7. My student role #3 is researcher B.
8. My student role #4 is a spokesperson.
9. Role #1 will produce research why the book should be banned and reports findings to the group.
10. Role #2 will record all the information given.
11. Role #3 will produce research as to why the book is helpful to a student’s learning and should not be banned. They will report findings to group.
12. Role #4 will present information to the class (school board) of the group’s findings.
13. The group product is a presentation to the class of their findings.

I am doing my lesson on 11th grade reading and language arts. After reading one of the three novels assigned, students will write a short report answering a question about the novel. Students will also create a presentation to present to the class and write a short response about the book. Many CSOs will be used in this project. My guiding question is How does literature help us better understand ourselves?
Have a wondrous day! (:

Visual Ranking Project
Today I created a visual ranking project called "The 5 Step Writing Process" using Intel Education. My students would have to rank the 5 steps of the writing process from first to last. I had to insert a project name, project description, a prompt for students, and then the list to sort. For the description, I put the CSOs for 11th grade reading language arts. Then, I created four teams. To do the activity, students need my teacher ID, Team ID, and password.
My teacher ID is hwhite1464.
The team IDs for the students are 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The passwords for the teams are one, two, three, and four, respectively.
Click here to view my visual ranking project.
Have a sensational day! :)

Put the lime in the Coke, you nut!
Here's the scenario:
Two glasses are each filled half-way with soda-one with cola, the other with lemon-lime. A small amount of the lemon-lime is removed from the glass and put into the cola glass. The glass is stirred thoroughly so that the lemon-lime is completely mixed into the cola. Then the same amount of the mixture is removed from the cola glass and put back into the glass with lemon-lime.
Here's the question:
After the soda has been exchanged, is there more cola in the lemon-lime glass or more lemon-lime in the cola glass?
Here's my answer:
I think there is more lemon-lime in the cola. I came to this conclusion by visualizing two glasses filled with the two liquids. Only lemon-lime was added to the cola. A lemon-lime and cola mixture was added to the lemon-lime, therefore there is more lemon-lime in the cola. It is impossible to measure the amount of each substance in the lemon-lime/cola mixture.
Have a fantastic day! :)

Here is a power point we had to make for homework over the weekend. I didn't really understand what to do or put, so it probably isn't very good.

Storage Issues
Saving your information is very important. Here are four ways to save an electronic document.
1) USB Drive
Pros: You can always carry it with you. You don't need internet access to use it.
Cons: It is easily lost, forgotten, broken, or stolen.
2) Hard Drive
Pros: You can't misplace it.
Cons: If your computer crashes, you lose everything. They can only be accessed from the computer you save it on.
3) A Network Drive
Pros: Once again, you can't misplace it. Your work will be able to be accessesd from any wired computer on campus.
Cons: It is only available by wired connection. Wireless computers will not work.
4) Google Docs
Pros: It's free. There is a lot of memory available. It cannot be misplaced or lost.
Cons: If you don't have internet access, getting your documents can be hard. They do offer a way to be able to access your documents from offline. So, there really aren't that many cons. (:
Have an outstanding day! (:

Mmmm..that's Delicious (:
Today we registered for a Delicious account. Delicious is a social bookmarking service that allows you to save bookmarks online. That way if your computer crashes or some other horrible event where all of your information is lost, all your bookmarks are still able to be accessed. You can also share them with other people much, much easier.
